Dominated by alpine granite peaks, Pirin National Park is also popular for its with lakes, caves, waterfalls and cliffs. In the southwest, Rila National Park covers nearly half of the Rila mountain range, including its 14 highest peaks.

Whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking are possible on the Rivers Arda, Ossam, Stackevska and Struma . The Danube is particularly suitable for canoeing and kayaking, and many spots in the Black sea are great for swimming, surfing, sailing and waterskiing.

There are good conditions for mountain biking in the mountains of Vitosha, Rhodopes, Pirin, Rila and Strandzha.
