Largely made up of rolling hills, England is more mountainous in the north. A chain of low mountains called the Pennines divide the country from east to west, stretching for 429km. To the west are the Cumbrian Mountains and the spectacular Lake District , with England ’s highest peak Scafell Pike standing at 978m. South of the Pennines are the Midlands , while the southwest peninsula known as the West Country is home to granite outcrops and rugged coastline. A mixture of farmland, low hills and an industrial belt make up the rest of the country, known as the English Lowlands.
ADVENTURE SPORTS IN ENGLAND
Home to beautiful and unspoilt countryside, England is ideal for hiking. The highest ground is found in the north and west of the country, while the east and south tend to be flatter. Gentler hills and farmland contrast with higher land, moorland, cliffs and a rocky shoreline, all perfect for trekking. Cyclists are very well provide for in England , and there are many designated cycling routes. Some of these pass through towns and villages and some go through wilder regions. All are signposted and well maintained.

Best spots for hiking & trekking
A long-distance footpath, the Pennine Way , runs along this range. Relatively demanding, owing to the continual ascents and descents, it is nevertheless very popular. The South West Coast Path runs around the coast from Minehead in Somerset to South Haven Point near Poole in Dorset . Northumberland National Park is renowned for its moorland and beaches.
