Adventure Holidays In Italy/h1> |
There is a great deal of variety in the beautiful landscape of Italy , characterised predominantly by two grand mountain chains: the towering Alps and the rugged Apennines . The former consists of great massifs in the western sector, with peaks rising to a dizzying 14000 feet, including Mont Blanc , Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn . The chain is somewhat lower in the eastern sector, although the mountains, the Dolomites, are still of outstanding beauty. At the foot of the Alpine arc stretches the vast Po Valley plain, characterised by large glistening lakes and fertile land. Central Italy is renowned for its lush green landscapes dotted with rolling hills while across the Strait of Messina is the island of Sicilia, rising up to the great volcanic cone of Etna and Sardegna.
ADVENTURE SPORTS IN ITALY
With 8500km of coastline, Italy is a water sport enthusiast’s paradise. The Italian Riviera in Liguria continues to tantalise and delight, as do the Adriatic and Amalfi coasts. Sicily is home to large sandy stretches on the southern coast, and much of Sardinia is still relatively untouched. If winter sports are more your thing, you’ll find that facilities at resorts in the Italian Alps now rival those in neighbouring Austria, France and Switzerland.
