One of the smallest countries in Europe , Luxembourg is also ranked 166th in size of all the countries of the world. The north of the country, part of the Ardennes , has hills and low mountains, with the Buurgplaz as the highest point at 559m. The rest of the country is also hilly. Luxembourg 's eastern border is formed by three rivers, the Moselle , the Sûre and the Our and dotted with rural communities. ADVENTURE SPORTS IN LUXEMBOURG
Although small, Luxembourg has a widespread system of hiking and walking routes. The north of the country lures outdoors enthusiasts with idyllic settings promising fabulous hiking, and there are 171 official hiking routes and 19 national footpaths nationwide. The Youth Hostels footpath links together the country’s 12 youth hostels, and maps of footpaths and hiking guides are readily available from bookshops and newsagents.

Best spots for hiking & trekking
The Müllerthal and Luxembourg Ardennes offer hikers spectacular rock formations, densely wooded forests and lush valleys, Berdorf is also good.
Best spots for water sports
Sailing and windsurfing are popular on the River Sure, while top spots for windsurfing include Insenborn, Lultzhausen and Liefrange. The rivers Sure, Moselle and the mountain rivers Clerve, Wiltz and Our are particularly good for kayaking and canoeing, and water-skiing is allowed on the River Moselle at specific times.
Best spots for cycling
Luxembourg is home to over 30 marked cycling routes, making it possible to cycle from the south to the north.
