The altitude of the Himalayan region ranges between 4877 metres and 8848 metres and includes 8 of the existing 14 summits in the world which exceed an altitude of 8000 meters. Not to be outdone, the Mountain region is formed by the Mahabharat range that soars up to a dizzy 4877 meters. To its south lay the lush valleys of the lower Churia range, while the low-land Terai region is made up of low-lying valleys and sparsely forested hills.

Popular treks from Kathmandu include the Everest Base Cam p, and the Helambu and Langtang treks. From Pokhara, the most popular are the Annapurna Circuit and the Jomsom trek. For the truly adventurous, the high Himalayas with 8,850 metre high Mount Everest , can’t be beat.
