The largest country in Central America , Nicaragua has three distinct geographical regions: the Pacific Lowlands, the North-Central Mountains and the Mosquito Coast . The Selva Negra near Matagalpa is popular, as are the islands in Lago de Nicaragua. Volcanoes of interest to trekkers are Volcan Masaya, Madera and Concepcion .
