Adventure Holidays In Portugal |
Portugal is split in two by its main river, the Tagus . To the north the landscape is mountainous in the interior areas with plateaus, while the south down as far as the Algarve features mostly rolling plains. Portugal 's highest point is Mount Pico that stands at 2351m. To its west and southwest lie the islands of the Azores and Madeira , far out in the Atlantic . Volcanic in origin, one to nine volcanoes are possibly still active. Characterised by rivers, valleys, forests and more mountains, the central regions are heavily populated.
