Hiking
Beginner
Hiking is one of the most popular outdoor activities for its close approximation to nature. If you're interested in finding out more about hiking but don't know where to start, the best way to begin is to enrol on a short course of group or private lessons. Many operators offer ‘primer courses’ that let you see if hiking is for you. If you enjoy your single-visit we strongly recommend that you enrol on a multiple-visit course.
Intermediate
If you already have basic hiking knowledge and would like to refine your hiking speed and technique, there are many ways you can do so. Most intermediate lessons will focus on hiking safety and technique. They will teach you about cardio training for hiking, how to pack for hiking and trekking, map and compass reading, route finding and field work and more. There is usually the opportunity to take lessons privately as well as part of a group, giving you the opportunity to hone specific skills such as trekking pole use.
Advanced
If you’re an ambitious advanced hiker striving to break through to the next level, honing your skills further means you’ll be able to learn more advanced techniques that will enrich your hiking experience. Many advanced hiking lessons focus on emergency management, advanced mountain safety skills, weather observation and prediction and more. If you enjoy hiking so much that you’re considering becoming a hiking instructor, we recommend that you take an Instructor Training Course to gain teaching experience as well as technical improvements.
