Whitewater Rafting
Beginner
Whitewater rafting is an adrenaline pumping adventure that may just change your view of water. If you're interested in finding out more about it but don't know where to start, the best way to begin is to enrol on a short course of group or private lessons to see if rafting is for you. Many operators offer ‘primer courses’ that let you get acquainted with rafting. If you enjoy your single-visit we strongly recommend that you enrol on a multiple-visit course.
Intermediate
If you already have basic rafting knowledge and are comfortable with basic whitewater paddle raft and oar rafting techniques, there are many ways you can improve your rafting skills. Most intermediate lessons will focus on techniques for paddling in different wind and wave conditions as well as first aid. There is usually the opportunity to take lessons privately as well as part of a group, giving you the opportunity to hone specific skills such as entering and exiting rapids safely.
Advanced
If you’re an ambitious intermediate or advanced rafter striving to break through to the next level, honing your skills with a qualified instructor means you’ll be able to learn more advanced techniques that will enrich your rafting experience. Many advanced rafting lessons encourage you to practice your rafting handling skills in a variety of challenging conditions. They also place an emphasis on risk assessment, river rescue and search and rescue. If you enjoy rafting so much that you’re considering becoming a rafting instructor or guide, you must take an accredited Instructor Training Course to gain teaching experience as well as technical improvements.
